Cabarrus County Race Tracks

Cabarrus County, North Carolina: The Racing Side of Charlotte

Cabarrus County is home to the legendary Lowe's Motor Speedway, the 1.5-mile superspeedway most drivers call home. The race track hosts the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, the Coca-Cola 600, and the Bank of America 500, as well as Busch and Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR events highlight the schedule in May and October, when over half-a-million fans come to watch their favorite drivers compete. Fans are welcome to come tour the race track when events aren't taking place.

Go behind the scenes to the Nextel Cup Garage, travel down pit road and into the Victory Circle where NASCAR's greatest drivers have stood. A ride around the 1.5-mile oval track in a comfortable van lets visitors feel the action of its 24-degree banks. Daily tours are available (except during events) and a gift shop is loaded with souvenirs and racing memorabilia. For hands-on excitement, step behind the wheel of a NEXTEL Cup-style stockcar at speeds over 160 miles-an-hour with Richard Petty Driving Experience.

The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway, one of the nation's most modern and fan-friendly race tracks, hosts a smorgasbord of motorsports entertainment from April to November. More racing can be found at Concord Motorsports Park, famous for the world's fastest paved ½-mile tri-oval track, which features NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, Legends and Bandolero divisions. Take the family for some full-throttle fun at NASCAR SpeedPark, which offers five challenging racetracks and games geared for all ages and skill levels.
