Nestled in the gently rolling countryside of the Carolina Piedmont, Cabarrus County is located in south-central North Carolina just a half-hour northeast of the burgeoning City of Charlotte. The region is home to more than 1.8 million people and includes the communities of Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Mt. Pleasant and Midland.
Harrisburg North Carolina, in the Cabarrus County's southwest section, experienced considerable expansion at the turn of the century, but failed to outgrow its status as a small rural trading and processing center. A handful of frame commercial buildings and some late 19th and early 20th century houses are what remain of the town's early sections.
